Second teaching class III Period

Second teaching class III Period
Jose Daniel Medina Aguirre

For this class, I was a little bit confident, but I was always keeping in mind what had happened in my last class in my last activity. This time, we were going to study another topic that was future in the past.

I tried to make something different for this class, I thought in doing the class funnier, for that, I brought funny activities. I just include four activities in my class.

The first one was my warm up. This activity was very interesting because the students had too much fun. I asked the students to come to the front and make a circle. Then when they had made the circle, I explained to them the game called “jump in, jump out, jump right, jump left”. For instance if I say, “jump in” they had to jump in or out and so on. Before starting the class, I had pasted on the board some pictures with phrases like “I am going to marry Silvia” etc. these were going to help me for the warm up. Regarding to the activity, I started saying “jump out” “jump left” “jump right” and so. I tried to confound them and the one who made a mistake had to participate by changing the sentence in future with going to to future in the past. I repeated the same game for about five times and, as it is usual, some students helped me to change the sentences. This activity took me over nine minutes.

The second activity was a fill in the blank activity, I gave a piece of paper that contained seven sentences, and they had to accomplish them by adding the right verb and a form of future in the past using was/were going to or would. Some of them had problems but the majority did it well. Consequently, I made them to repeat the sentences.

The third activity was a conversation model. They were going to listen to the conversation and pay attention to the context. Therefore, I made them listen to the first time. Then, the second one by only reading. The third time, they had to repeat after listening and lastly, they had to tell me what the conversation was about.

Finally, the last activity was a speaking activity. I formed pairs and I gave a piece of paper with two tasks. In the first part, they had to make a plan for vacation with 5ooo dollars. They had to plan what they were going to do, take, buy, eat, drink, etc. I set up five minutes for this. After they had worked in part one, I said “please work on part two”. I read the direction but they felt like displeased because (supposedly in the part one they were going to go to a nice vacation) now they could not go because a bad weather condition.

Therefore, I asked them to come and make a circle again. I had brought a synthetic apple, so I passed the apple and I counted until ten, the pair that got the apple were going to tell me their ruined plans by using future in the past. This time, the last activity was interesting because the student participated and had fun. For me it was awesome. So my class finished nicely.

Well by this time, I was feeling a little bit nervous but I do believe that it was because of the topic. It was reported speech and, I did not remember it too much since I studied that topic in the second year of our major.

My class started with my warm-up that was the activity “the broken telephone”. To develop this activity, first, I introduced myself and then I asked them to stand up and make two lines each in front of the board with a student in the beginning of the line holding a marker on hand, the one who will write the sentences. I just showed the sentences to both students at the back of the line and they had to pass it by whispering it on each students’ ear. They did it awesome, farther; they took over ten minutes to do this activity.

Afterwards, I passed to a practice in a handout that the teacher had provided them. I was going to check the exercise four by checking the right ones and correcting the mistakes as well as repeating the pronunciation.

Shortly after, the students had to listen to a conversation from a listening and they had to pronounce it by giving it rhythm and intonation. As it was a listening, they had to use their books and work alone.  After a short time, they should work in another exercise in the same handout but now in exercise five.

To finish my class, I did the final activity that was a speaking activity; it consisted in retelling a story that was in simple present tense.  I asked the students to form two groups and stand up while doing this. Regarding, I handed out two different stories one to each group and they had to change the tense from simple present to reported speech. As well, I set up 5 minutes for the students to read and learn the story. Shortly, I asked them to retell the story among themselves by using reported speech. For this activity, I asked them to select two representatives for each group who were going to retell me the story. I had been glad because of the students’ participation but in this activity was the exception. They did not tell me who were the two representatives and anybody accepted the role. However, I decided to select some of them to participate and I just select from two to three because of the time. Therefore, I ended my class up.
